MORE ABOUT CHEYANNE

Hi, my name is Cheyanne Jones and I am the leader of Wesleyan Christian Fellowship. I am a junior here on campus, and this is my second year leading this bible study. While I call Athens my home, I am from Crossville, TN. I am a Social Work major with a minor in Religion. I met Jesus when I was 11, but I did not know He was actually real until I was 13. I was emotionally and mentally abused by my dad when I was in highschool and I did not know that I was a child of God until my freshman year of college. I was baptized the spring of my freshman year and started seeking out my relationship with my Creator. When God removed my desire to continue my running career and opened up the door for me to lead this bible study, I jumped on board! Now, my biggest passion is to spread the word of God to as many people who are open to listen, and to let their lives be changed like mine was by the love of Christ.

In regards to affiliations I am a part of on campus, I am the manager for both the mens and womens cross-country and track teams, involved with the FCA ministry, a member of the Social Work Club, a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, and I also work at Love Thy Neighbor Project.

WCF is a  small group bible study for those who want to begin a relationship with Jesus, learn more about the bible, and ask questions in a secure and safe setting. Each meeting will consist of fellowship, worship, discussion, and learning. The platform RightNow Media will be used for studies and learning topical lessons to help guide you in your walk with Christ.

This semester we will be going through a study called: Get Out Of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts by Jennie Alllen. In a brief glance, here is an excerpt from the back cover of the book:

“It’s All in Your Head. Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me. Jennie Allen knows what it is like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns. As she discovered in her own life, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. Freedom comes when we refuse to be victims to our thoughts and realize we have already been equipped with the power from God to fight and win the war for our minds. In Get Out of Your Head, Jennie inspires and equips us to transform our emotions, our outlook, and even our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts. Our enemy is determined to get in our heads to make us feel helpless, overwhelmed, and incapable of making a difference for the kingdom of God. But when we submit our minds to Christ, the promises and goodness of God flood our lives in remarkable ways.”

Meetings will be held every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm in Colloms room 113
